Don’t Honor John Murtha!

Gabe Ledeen of Vets For Freedom has created an excellent petition in protest against the awarding of  the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award to Congressman John Murtha.

I have no doubt that, after reading this sample of the text of the petition, true patriots will join the 46,464 who have endorsed it as of the time of this writing.

We the undersigned are appalled that the Secretary of the Navy would bestow the Department’s highest award for a non-employee to John Murtha after his vile and despicable attacks against U.S. servicemen. This petition is a vehicle to express our bitter disappointment at this betrayal of our combat veterans. Congressman John Murtha should apologize for slandering the Marines of 3/1, and for undermining the efforts of those servicemen and women who fought in Iraq. If he does not, the Secretary of the Navy should rescind this award as a sign of his unwavering support for those who served in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Murtha Threatening Members over Pork, Pelosi Defending Behavior

A few days ago, I wrote a blog post revealing that Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) slipped a secret earmark into a bill to authorize funds for our intelligence operations. It directs $23 million toward a drug center in his district despite conclusions from the House Government Reform Committee that it is both wasteful and unnecessary.   Because of this, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) tried to have the earmark removed from the bill. Shortly thereafter Murtha angrily approached him on the floor. Rogers provided the following description of what happened next: Murtha, who has enormous power over defense projects as Chairman of the Defense Subcommittee on Appropriations, came to me on the House floor and said: “You don’t have any earmarks in the appropriations bills now or forever.” I replied to him that threatening retribution is not the way we do business in Congress. To which he replied: “That’s the way I do it.” No Member of Congress should ever be threatened because of his or her efforts to crack down on wasteful spending and protect the interests of taxpayers. This is exactly why Americans are disgusted with the United States Congress and it’s out of control spending. Mr. Murtha’s threat violated more than the House rules – it violated the public’s trust. As lawmakers, we must have an obligation to shine a spotlight on earmarks and eliminate wasteful spending, as Mr. Murtha’s pet project surely is. As a former FBI agent who pursued cases of organized crime and public corruption, it is disappointing to see such behavior in the People’s House. This pork-barrel project takes precious intelligence resources from spies on the ground catching terrorists and sends it to bureaucrats in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. You might think Speaker Pelosi would step in and hold Murtha accountable for this egregious pork project or at the very least reprimand him for his threatening behavior. Nope. To the contrary, she is defending him for his “bipartisanship” and calling this entire discussion “unjustified.”   I guess she really didn’t mean it when she said last November that she wanted to make “this the most honest, ethical, and open Congress in history.”

These people make the MAJORITY of Americans SICK and TIRED of tolerated their OBVIOUS and BLATANT BS!

Contrary to complaints from Fightin’ John Murtha (D-Anbar), Army Gen. David Petraeus, commander of Multinational Force Iraq, did in fact brief Congress on the war in Iraq. “They bring Petraeus back—purely political move… He doesn’t talk to any of us. He only talks to the news media and so forth trying to sell this program.” In fact, Murtha participated in a 30-minute phone conference with Petraeus.

During his briefings, Gen. Petraeus said that interrogations of members of the Qazali terror network have lead to more evidence of Iranian involvement in terrorist activity in Iraq. This involvement includes arms, ammunition, advanced explosive munitions and technologies, training in Iran and even some advice and direction from Iranian military personnel. The detention of the head of the Sheibani network produced intelligence that munitions described by Petraeus as “particularly lethal against some of our armored vehicles” were obtained from Iran. He added, “Iranian financing is taking place through the Quds force of the Iranian Republican Guards Corps.” Any remaining question regarding Iraq as the central warfront with Jihadistan?
