Yes, the original thought behind the motto was 13 newly independent colonies becoming one nation, but as thirteen states began to expand including massive legal (as opposed to today’s ILLEGAL) immigration, E Pluribus Unum began taking on a Melting Pot image of foreigners adopting an American Heritage.
