About This Legislation:
H.R. 997 would protect English as our common language by making English the official language of the United States.
ProEnglish supports this bill because it would:
- Protect English by giving it an “official” status in law that it has never had before.
- Repeal the “multilingual mandate,” Executive Order 13166,which currently requires federal agencies and funds recipients, including state and local governments, to provide translations and interpreters for non-English speakers in their native language.
- Reform U.S. naturalization requirements by directing the Department of Homeland Security to develop a standardized English exam that would be given to candidates for naturalization.
-
Enable taxpayers to sue the federal government to stop bureaucrats from violating the law.

OFFICIAL ENGLISH IS SWEEPING THE NATION!
The Missouri legislature has proposed to voters a Constitutional amendment.
30 states have made English their official language, and official English bills are pending in a dozen more. Lawmakers in even more states are working to strengthen existing laws.
In the past year, official English has passed in Kansas, Idaho, and Arizona. Legislation has also passed the Nevada Senate, and is awaiting a vote in the House.

Snoop, can you post this at the “Dance”? See if you like the picture I chose for the Fairness Doctrine picture–I’m swamped here at work–gurgle, gurgle!
Roger, Copy.
This is sickening Snooper, my god, we are in America, we shouldn’t NEED a law saying this, it should be common fucking sense.
If I went to another country to live I would EXPECT to have to learn their language as common courtesy.
I guess America deserves no common couresy.
If you have ANY desire to slap this over at Wake up America, I wouldn’t complain.
LOL

IF people want to live in our Country LEGALLY it would be best to learn our language. Afterall I would wonder if they didn’t what they were up to, and why they REALLY want to be in our Country. And do they love our Country or the benefits that are given by our Country.
We need English as our offical language. It’s not hard to figure out there are nuts out there that want to k*ll us.
We can only have one Flag, one language and one desire for Freedom.
The U N is in America. America is not the United Nations.
Yes, people can speak other languages but English should be their main language. We should never have to give up our rights to appease others, but it’s the others that come here that should show us that they really want to be in America. Legally come here I mean.
Common sense is lost on many, usually the vocal minority.
Multiculturalism is for the trite dinks and ignorant yammerlings.
The common language is our strength — without it we become a divided nation especially since there are so many other ethnic and cultural things dividing us.
I work with a very intelligent Korean woman who is often perceived to be a weak employee due to her language barrier. Her English is quite good, but she speaks very slowly with a strong accent and people don’t always take the time to look beyond that to her extraordinary analytical skills. If she did not speak English at all, she would probably be mopping floors somewhere instead of working for a Wall St. financial firm — so for GOD’S SAKE WHY WOULD LIBS WANT TO KEEP GOOD PEOPLE FROM EXCELLING IN THIS COUNTRY??????
The dementedcrats desire strongly to have generations and generations of the ignorant masses depending on THEM for everything.
English must be America’s #1 language it only makes common sense.
Different languages are good but as a second language.
There are people from other nations here but they MUST come here to be Americans first. We should not change for anyone.
Assimilation…the forgotten “A” word.
I agree. Look what happened at that greek diner when everyone tried to order a cheeseburger.
English literacy requirement as a component in the naturalization of aliens within the United States. Surprisingly, such a requirement

Has existed in statutory form for less than 100 years, having first been enacted in 1906.
Currently, federal law (8 U.S.C. Section 1423) provides that:
(a) No person except as otherwise provided in this
subchapter shall hereafter be naturalized as a citizen of the United States upon his own application who cannot demonstrate — (1) an understanding of the English language, including an ability to read, write,
and speak words in ordinary usage in the English language:
i had a coworker try to tell me that we will have to learn spanish in five years just a few days ago. I was furious. Why should have to learn another language when they chose to come to my country? Why should I support people who choose to live 3-4 families in a three bedroom house? Why should i support someone who talks badly about americans in spanish because i’m right there and don’t think i know what they are saying? We should make english the official language and follow australia’s example:
Prime Minister John Howard – Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians’.
‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggl es, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’. ‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!’
‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of o ur schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’
‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’
‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and grip i ng about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,
‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’
‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’
Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
They have passed laws that say speak my language, and embrace my country or get out. check mexico’s immigration laws, surprising no one else thought to pass them here in the United States:
